Statement by medical examiner says death of Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri, 26, was 'homicide'

 

Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said on Tuesday that the UAE  Embassy in Washington is investigating the death of an Emirati student in Ohio. 
The ministry was still waiting for the completion of the investigations by the embassy.
A statement by the Summit County medical examiner named the student as 26-year-old Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri, residing in Cleveland, Ohio.
"The autopsy has been completed and the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death is homicide," the statement said.
It added: "The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office will not be releasing any more information at this time.  For any other information regarding this case contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI)."
Gulf News contacted the UAE Embassy in Washington, which said the Ohio state police were investigating the case.
“Once we get the details from the police, we will issue a detailed statement about the case through the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,” said a media official at the embassy.

Tributes poured in from across the country for 26-year-old Saif Nasser Mubarak Alameri, a student residing in Cleveland, Ohio, who was killed by a gunshot wound to the head.
Residents took to social media to express their sorrow over the tragic incident that took place recently, and within 12 hours of the news breaking, the Arabic topic of Saif_Nasser_In_God’s_Hands was trending on Twitter.
@iiees said: “May Allah forgive him and grant him mercy, and guide him into the gates of Paradise.”  
@HadiAlMns said: “He died seeking knowledge. May Allah accept him into heaven and show him mercy.”
On its website, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) posted a statement by Mohammed Mer Al Raisi, Under Secretary at the Ministry, who said: “In co-ordination with the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC, the Ministry is following up the investigation into the painful incident that led to the death of an Emirati student in Ohio.”
Al Raisi also said: "In light of this follow-up, and after details of the painful incident are clarified by the authorities, the Ministry will issue a more comprehensive statement at a later time.”
Meanwhile, on its official account, the MoFAIC tweeted on Tuesday night: “UAE following up investigation into death of Emirati citizen in Ohio.”  

In a statement, the Summit County medical examiner said: "The autopsy has been completed and the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. The manner of death is homicide.”According to Reuters, Alameri crashed his car and struggled with an Ohio police officer before the fatal incident.
Police officers responded to a call around 3pm about an erratic driver on the Ohio Turnpike in Hudson, Ohio, 30 miles (48km) southeast of Cleveland, police said in a statement.
Reuters also reported that the driver, Alameri, eventually lost control of his vehicle, which flipped, and he fled into the nearby woods.
Alameri was eventually located by a police officer who shot him after a struggle, police said.
