Fog causes 25 car pile-up in Abu Dhabi
Motorists urged to maintain safe distance between vehicles and switch on headlights while driving

Dubai: The Abu Dhabi-Al Ain highway witnessed two major traffic
accidents on Monday morning – leaving a 25 car pile-up and six motorists
with moderate injuries.
According to Abu Dhabi Police, the
accidents were caused by heavy fog that not only blanketed the busy
highway, but that also affected visibility levels in other parts of the
emirate.
The accidents occurred between 7am to 8am.
In a statement, Brig Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director General of
Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said that a team of police
officers and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Our
initial investigation revealed that the accidents were caused by
motorists who failed to take the necessary precautions when driving in
foggy weather conditions,” said Brig Al Dhaheri.
Police attributed
the accidents to drivers who failed to maintain a safe distance between
the car in front of them, in addition to failing to switch on the car’s
headlights.
Earlier that same morning, Abu Dhabi Police reported
that six other vehicles were involved in a separate traffic accident
that also took place in the same area of Al Khaznah.
Even though no major injuries were reported in both crashes, the accident left six people with minor cuts and bruises.
Police
have urged motorists to drive with caution over the next few days as
foggy conditions are expected to continue, particularly at night and in
the early morning.
Motorists have also been advised to take alternative roads through crossing Al Sad bridge.
