Mars poster competition launched

Undergraduate and graduate students get a chance to research and design a poster on Mars exploration

Dubai: Undergraduate and graduate students now have a chance to create a poster based on their research on Mars for a chance to win more than Dh20,000.
The Mohammad Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has launched a competition called Explore Mars Poster Competition allowing university students to conduct in-depth research on the geology, atmosphere, or habitability of Mars and visualise this in a poster format.
“Scientific research is of great importance, playing a pivotal role in enriching knowledge and achieving comprehensive development,” Eng Salem Humaid Al Merri, assistant director-general for Scientific and Technical Affairs at MBRSC, said.
“Encouraging students to conduct research develops both educational and specialised sectors. It is also very important to create opportunities for all graduate and undergraduate students to deepen their knowledge of Martian science and gain new skills in the field of analysing scientific facts and data,” he added.
Applicants may register online via the page dedicated to the competition on the MBRSC website, no later than September 8. Deadline of submission of posters is September 28.
Renowned national and international scientists in the field of Mars exploration will judge the entries at the second Annual EMM Science Workshop on October 3.
The first prize winner will receive Dh10,000, the second place will get Dh7,000, and the third will get Dh5,000.
