UN meeting on Yemen tackles obstacles to peace

GCC ministers discuss failures of the peace talks that took place in Kuwait and ways to rejuvenate the peace process

New York: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, participated Thursday in a quadrilateral ministerial meeting to discuss the Yemeni crisis on the sidelines of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), being held in New York.

The meeting was held in the presence of Esmail Ould Chaikh Ahmad, United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir, US Secretary of State John Kerry, and British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Ould Shaikh Ahmad began discussed thee challenges hampering his efforts to revive the political process in Yemen.

The meeting reiterrated its full backing of the UN envoy’s efforts to reach a political solution based on UN Security Council Resolution 2216 and the GCC initiative.

Another meeting on Yemen was held with GCC foreign ministers discussing ongoing humanitarian and economic conditions.

The ministers discussed the failures of the peace talks that took place in Kuwait and ways to rejuvenate the peace process.

UAE Minister of State Sultan Bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber attended the meeting as well as Assistant Foreign Minister for Security and Military Affairs, Fares Mohammad Al Mazroui.
